Miolo Seleção

The story of the Miolo Family in Brazil started in 1897 when Giuseppe Miolo arrived in Brazil from Italy. On his arrival as an immigrant, he went to Bento Gonçalves and exchanged his savings for a piece of land, known as Lote 43, in the Vale dos Vinhedos. He started to plant grapes in the same year, beginning the family’s tradition of viticulture in Brazil.

In the 1970s the Miolo family was a pioneer in planting fine grapes, making Giuseppe Miolo’s grandsons, Darcy, Antonio and Paulo, very well known in the region for their grape quality. In 1989, the family started to produce its own wine for sale in bulk, which was the beginning of Miolo Winery. Some years later, in 1994, the company evolved to another phase, bottling wine carrying the family name.

Growth was very fast. So fast that in 1998 the company started the Quality Project with the aim of achieving sustainable growth, with continuous investment in the land, technology, human resources and in the consumer himself.

The mission of Vinícola Miolo is to consolidate the brand in the world as quality reference of fine wine production from Brazil. This started in 1897 when the family of Italian wine growers arrived in Brazil. As time passed the passion for viticulture passed down through the generations. Development of the wine takes place with the same care that their forebears cared for the vineyards. The family’s obsession with quality never ceases to grown. Miolo shares with its clients the love for the product carrying the family name.

Vineyards

Miolo’s origins are in viticulture, and is has developed as a respected producer since the beginning of the last century. The family knows that the cultivation of the grape is fundamental, the key to quality viticulture. The family invests strongly in vineyards, always using certified plants – imported from the best European producers. It has adopted a simple espalier growing system, with low productivity per plant. In this way the wines receive a good amount of sun. Handling is extremely careful. All this is to cultivate perfectly ripe and healthy fruit.

Region

The Vale dos Vinhedos is situated in southern Brazil at latitude 29º south, being representative of the viticulture region from the Italian colonization, with more than a century of wine producing tradition. It features average altitudes, from 450 to 650 meters, with viticulture normally situated halfway up the valley slopes. The region has the temperate climate common to a large part of global viticulture, with mild summers, yet on a global level it is differentiated by its humidity, bringing a typical regional characteristic to the grape and the wine. It is also the first region in Brazil to have the certification of geographical indication, which commenced in 2001. The vineyards are not irrigated, and the wines develop according to rainfall.
